FAQ
Your questions, answered
-
What is a Fire Safety Plan?A Fire Safety Plan helps to ensure effective utilization of fire safety systems, equipment, and procedures in a building to protect people from fire. The Ontario Fire Code O. Reg 213/07 as amended requires a Fire Safety Plan (Division B Section 2.8) for many properties and businesses. It outlines how fire safety systems, equipment, and procedures should be used to protect people from fires.
-
When is a Fire Safety Plan required?A Fire Safety Plan (FSP) is required by law for buildings listed in Section 2.8 of the Ontario Fire Code. These include: Buildings with assembly, care, care and treatment, detention, or residential occupancies exceeding 10 occupants. Retirement homes, business, and personal services occupancies with over 300 occupants. Mercantile occupancies with over 300 occupants. High hazard industrial occupancies with over 25 occupants. Medium hazard industrial occupancies with over 100 occupants. Low hazard industrial occupancies with over 300 occupants. Additionally, FSPs are needed for all buildings and premises with four or more storeys, including below-grade storeys. Not sure if your building requires a Fire Safety Plan? Contact us for a free consultation and estimate.
-
Does the plan need to be approved by City?Yes, the Fire Safety Plan (FSP) must be reviewed and approved by the local fire department. For buildings listed in Section 2.8 of the Ontario Fire Code, every FSP draft must be approved by the Chief Fire Official with jurisdiction in the building's area. We take care of all communication and revisions required by the fire department. Our team will submit the draft FSP, handle any necessary revisions, and ensure compliance with the Ontario Fire Code. A fire inspector will then verify the plan during a site visit. The approval timeline varies based on workload but rest assured, we manage the process efficiently.
-
Do we require floor plan drawings for the fire safety plan?Yes, schematic drawings are necessary and must be submitted with the Fire Safety Plan (FSP). Our team will handle the creation and revision of these drawings to ensure they include all the required information as per the Ontario Fire Code. If you do not have floor plan drawings available, we offer cost-effective methods for creating drawings at a competitive price. Our goal is to streamline the process for you, ensuring compliance without breaking your budget.
